| SPECIFICATION OF SILICON D127 GROUND POWER PACK | ||||
| 1.THE SYSTEM | The unit consists of a combined battery and charger which can be used separately or together to provide clean DC to an aircraft for starting or avionics supply, both near to or away from an AC supply. | |||
2.OUTPUT
The DC is available at the aircraft plug up to 1200 Amps and also at the front of panel test sockets up to 20 Amps. The system voltage is nominal 24V DC and with the AC connected the output is 28V DC.
3.BATTERY ON/OFF |
A switch is located on the front panel by means of which the battery can be switched on or off. For starting purposes the battery must be ON.
4.CURRENT LIMIT
The charger has an adjustable current limit from 0 to 40 Amps and a potentiometer on the front panel gives operator adjustment. This feature allows a safe test mode for aircraft instrumentation whereby the battery may be switched off and a low current limit set (eg. 2 Amps) and even if a fault exists in the aircraft, then no damage is done to the wiring by high fault currents.
5.BATTERY CAPACITY METER
A optional VARTA capacity meter is fitted to the front panel to indicate the battery state of charge and provide early warning for timorously recharge (If available). Green LED indicates full charge, amber LED indicates near end of capacity and red LED shows battery recharge is now necessary.
6.STARTING THE AIRCRAFT
The unit will start the aircraft when the plug is connected to the aircraft and the battery switch is ON. Maximum starting current is 1200 Amps and is not current limited. The charger may or may not be connected during starting and will not suffer any damage by the starting cycle. With a fully charged battery the starting voltage at 700 Amps is found to be above 20V DC.
7.AVIONICS SUPPLY
The battery may be switched off and the charger be used as a 28V DC power supply with an output of 40A maximum. This output is filtered to 2mV weighted to the latest CCITT requirements for telecommunications requirements and maximum RMS ripple is less than 100mV. This output may also be used with BATTERY OFF as an emergency 40 Amp charger for an external battery.
